Sustainability is the keyword to Life

Sustainability, the ability to maintain, to sustain, in this case life and the human race’s continued existence on this planet, what it all boils down to. How we, humans, as a species, as varied and diverse cultures, can sustain a level of living that is comfortable and sounds from a economic and ecological perspective.
This is one of the major issues facing our world this day. How to continue to live as we have always, and yet stay sustainable. A conundrum I do not believe we can achieve. Some where, at some point and time compromise, real compromise on core social and economic levels, will need to be made. Without them I suspect we could face a collapse that would hurl the modern world into a 4th world scenario, leaving on the 3rd world countries, using those terms in their most layman of senses, in the best shape. Mostly due to a lack of heavy infrastructure, where they will continue pretty much how they are at this time. It will be the most commercialized, more mechanized nations that will take the real hit, experience the fall much harder than those lagging behind, in conventional theory.

So the challenge is how to sustain life, in a form at least similar, to how it is at this stage of the dance on mother earth. This is the sustainability challenge. A key to this challenge is, I believe, transportation. The current world model is predicated on Oil. This is the primary energy source, as transmuted, for transportation. So the movement of goods and services from one location to another, which in turns allows for more people to have access to more things. Without oil, as the main cheap (in comparison to other alternatives) source of motive power, the current world economic model will, I believe, collapse.

So to promote and engender sustainability, my personal opinion is, a new overall source of energy for motion, movement, for transportation, is necessary. This is the key to sustainability, a viable alternative. It will not save the current societal structure, instead I believe it will sustain the human race and allow us, people, a chance at a society similar, and different, that is focused on continuing in the long term our species instead of focused solely on the short term, short sighted, sense of glut capitalistic gains. I feel competition and advancement in the capitalist sense is possible, while still having respect and dignity, having responsibility, for everyone in the mind as well as in the heart.

Peak Oil, the greatest challenge we face

For a good year now I have been contemplating how best to help the most number of people. From starting my own non-profit devoted to helping Veterans and People Transitioning Work, to Urban Infill ideas dealing with taking empty office spaces (Such as the old Circuit City building here in town and turning it into affordable housing) I have considered and dabbled in getting started on those and others.

So then a few weeks ago I asked some people I know what they consider to be the single thing (however impossible) I could focus on that would do the most good for the most people. I got some good ideas, some support, mostly focused on work in your skills or interests.

Then last weekend sitting in Books a Million with my wife I found the book with the answer. Why Your World Is About to Get a Whole Lot Smaller: Oil and the End of Globalization


It reminded me of my long time layman interest in Peak Oil and what it will mean for our world.
So this is the answer, increase awareness of Peak Oil and work to find a solution, and to encourage the finding of this solution. Now to get serious funding.

Later Days and Stranger Ways

So no sales yet, but I have done no advertising for it yet either.

So the last few days I have been working on a new setting instead of more 4Somes books. Surreal and Horror are supposed to be the main genre elements.

So that is moving apace, and will be dirt cheap as a pdf when I have it complete.

So that is where I am right now.

I can no longer believe most experts (especially money oriented ones)

I no longer believe most experts

Well it is official. I can no longer believe most experts, especially when it comes to money. I mean let us face it, the experts are the ones that drove the world to the state it is in now, February 2009. They are the causes of the world as it stands, along with some other groups I will not name so as to not inflame the fanatical.

So as far as I can see the experts are the ones that advise the rich to invest they way they do. They are the ones that run the stock markets, investments, they are the ones that advise CEOs and CFOs on how to run their companies, the ones to drive the bus known as America off the cliff, taking everyone else along with them.

The experts are who I hold liable for the current state of affair, along with the Politicians who were holding the reins of power during the previous 30 some years. They thought only of themselves, and not of people in general.

So today the wife and I went to Brandon, Fl. A small town about a 30 minute drive away, better shopping and where her Partylite leader lives at. She needed to get some more product and advice as well. The leader she has is one of the best sales professionals I have met in my life, and I grew up in a sales family. So out of 2 parents and 4 children, I am the only non-sales person in the lot. I have sold, but I am not primarily money motivated so it really does not work for me.

So once we were done, the meeting, we went to several stores. All of them were busy. People purchasing things left and right.
So we went to Jo-ans Fabric, Old Tyme Pottery Barn, Books a Million, Chick Fil A was close to packed, the Brandon Mall was almost as busy as at Christmas, and more patrons had product than not.
So this points to my thinking that at least in our area the economy is not what the experts say it is. So the last 3 times we have gone into one of the Staples in town they have been busier than usual, over the last month.

I can only think that the experts are driving the United States into the ground. The finance professionals, bankers, investors, stock brokers and politicians. I think it is deliberate actually. They being focused on how far they can climb using everyone else as fodder.

So I suggest we remove them from power, cut off the news channels feeding fear and terror, and allow people and businesses to get on with their life.
Everyone go start a new business.
Everyone go shop at a local store, support your community.
Everyone take back your city or town from the fear mongers.

Here are some of the trends I perceive and where I think they may end up at here in the next ten years or so. They of course affect what I see as up and coming as well as persistent Career Potentials. All of this is from my own perspective, but I feel confident of the trends I perceive. Which of course is influenced by my own career, career paths, etc.


* An End of Benefits for employees (cost, etc.)
* End of Full Time Permanent employment except in certain industries
* Return of Industrial capacity to countries (a necessity in the post consumerism world)
* Increased Sustainability, Permaculture, Renewable and Recycling to all world facets

Looking at this list I see an even more outsourced, contract employee mentality. I had started a short story a few months back posulating that all companies could be contract employees. With good turnovers between managers, with some overlap, all you really need is some rented office space and one or two visionaries to own the company, the rest can be contract employees.

One of the Mammals

I am dividing the World of Business into two main components.
The Dinosaurs such as Citibank, Ford Motor, AIG, the other large monolithic companies that are dying off due to what I am calling the Extinction Level Event aka the Financial Crisis of 2008 and the other

The Mammals which are smaller and or more agile companies such as Google, Amazon, and locally CDS Engineering.

State Of The World

This is my blog on where I am discussing the State of the World. The entire planet as seen in my eyes, experienced in my life, along with what I feel is necessary for us, Human Beings, to weather the storms that are sweeping across people, towns, cities, nations, governments, businesses, social strata and the climate/environment

It is obvious to me that the current structure to the modern world, the current configuration for it, is no longer viable. I am not positive what the new world, the new configuration is going to be like, I have a few ideas that I have started to express in a variety of Hubpages
